Guests in their own language

By default guests see your campsite's language on the booking form, booking page and in every email. If your website is in more than one language, one switch lets each guest book and be written to in theirs: English, Spanish, French, German or Italian.

Guests in their own language

Campiamo speaks five languages: English, Spanish, French, German and Italian. Out of the box everything a guest sees follows the language set under Settings → Property: the booking widget, the availability search, the direct booking page, the guest's own edit and payment pages, and every email we send them on your behalf. That suits most sites, and it is what you get without touching anything.

If your website has more than one language, say an English and a French version, you can let each guest have their own instead.

Turning it on

  1. Go to Settings → Property.
  2. Under the language dropdown, untick Guests see this language.
  3. Save.

Your own language setting stays as it is. It still decides the language of your dashboard emails, the new-booking alert and anything else written to you, and it is the fallback for guests whose browser is in a language we don't have.

What changes for the guest

With the box unticked, the booking form picks its language in this order:

  1. The language you ask for on the link. On the direct booking link add ?lang=fr (or en, es, de, it), so the copy of the link on your French page reads https://campiamo.com/book/your-site?lang=fr. On an embedded widget add data-lang="fr" to the widget's div. The availability widget passes the language on to the booking page by itself.
  2. The guest's browser language, when you haven't asked for one and the browser is set to one of the five.
  3. Your campsite's language, when neither applies.

Prices, dates and the pitch names come from your settings as before; only the wording around them changes.

What changes afterwards

The language a guest booked in is kept on their booking. From then on every email to that guest goes out in it: the confirmation, payment requests and receipts, the balance reminder, the pre-arrival message, the events note, the post-stay thank-you and the review invitation. The guest's edit page and payment page open in it too. Changing the switch later does not change the language of bookings already made.

Bookings you enter yourself on the dashboard or at reception, and bookings that arrive while the box is ticked, carry no guest language and use your campsite's.

Things to know

  • The switch is per campsite. If you run several sites on one account, set it on each.
  • Only the five languages count. A guest whose browser is in Dutch or Portuguese gets your campsite's language, not Dutch. If you'd like another language added, ask us through Support.
  • Your pitch descriptions, extras and custom fields are not translated. They appear exactly as you wrote them, whichever language the form is in. The same goes for your pre-arrival message.
  • Check the link on each page. The commonest mistake is copying the English link onto the French page. The ?lang= on the end is what tells the form which language that page is in.
